Karen grew up in the Denver area, and after graduating from Denver's Metropolitan State College with a degree in English literature, she taught English and language arts for a number of years at both middle and high school levels.

Karen worked for over 16 years as a paralegal/legal assistant in Western Colorado. Her legal experience is in the areas of civil litigation, personal injury and workers' compensation defense, real estate and business transactions, and employment law. She moved to Texas in 2010 with her husband, lucky black cat and Labradoodle, in order to live closer to her two grown daughters.
